Rotorua Rowing Club has experience in community learn to row offerings and have found them to be effective in building confidence and providing new friendships for participants.
With the support of Cancer Society Waikato/Bay of Plenty, we are offering cancer survivors and their supporters the opportunity to get out on the water in a relaxed and calm environment.  Rowing can be a very gentle exercise that uses your whole body, building strength and flexibility through flow movement.

Would you like to try rowing? We’d love to see you at the club to have a go.

Our Survivors' Row program consists of a
4-hour introductory session, followed by one session a week over 6 weeks.  And, of course, after each session there is time for coffee and a yarn.

The first day will consist of introductions, a trial of the rowing machines, some boat handling lessons and then getting into the water – we’ll stay near the shore in shallow water, and your boat will be connected to a rope so you can paddle without travelling.  To finish off, and only when everyone is feeling confident, we’ll head out in a stable coastal boat.  It will be a leisurely session with plenty of tea breaks and time to get to know each other..

For newcomers to rowing, we use a coastal boat – a wider and extra‑stable boat.  Once you get comfortable, we’ll switch to our standard rowing boats, which are a longer and narrower style used for most on‑water sessions.

If our weekly sessions are out on the water, allow for a couple of hours.  If we’re having an indoor session using the rowing machines you can allow for a little less time.

Please register your interest by clicking on the Register Here button above and filling in your details – please be sure to let us know which time slots are best for you.  Our first introductory session will take place on a warm Saturday, later in October at 9:30am. We will be in contact with those registered with the date. The following sessions will be confirmed once we’re able to get a sense of participant availability.
